the power of prayer walks

Walking is such a therapeutic experience. For me, walking is something that relaxes my mind and allows me to feel so free! I remember one day, just walking while listening to my worship music and beginning to thank God for all He has done for me and that’s how my ‘prayer walks’ began.

There doesn’t need to be a set destination to walk to. It doesn’t matter if you walk with a fast worship song or a slow one; on a windy day or a hot day. It’s about resting in His presence doing the most simplest of things - walking. Yet knowing that He is right beside You.

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭31‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What peace we should feel in knowing that on our prayer walks, God is walking beside us.

Below are some tips for your prayer walks:

  • Walk with gospel music

This is great for people who sense God’s presence or feel God speaking to them through music. Meditate on the lyrics as you walk.

  • Walk in silence

Sometimes silence is perfect for hearing God. As you walk in silence with no distractions, take this time to praise Him for all He has done and all He has yet to do in your life. Look at the nature and other people you walk past and offer your praise to Him. Rest in His peace which transcends all understanding.

  • Pray

If you’re experiencing a hard time, try praying on your walk to remind yourself that physically, mentally and spiritually you aren’t walking this journey on your own. God is right there beside you listening and making a way - just as He did with the Children of Israel as a cloud by day and a fire by night.

  • Meditate on scripture

Walking while meditating on scripture might help you to remember the Word better.

However you wish to do your prayer walk, remember that you are never walking alone.

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬
