Cloud by day, fire by night

Exodus 13:21-22 "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way: and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light: to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people."

The children of Israel are being rescued by God from slavery. 400 years of slavery! Pharoah finally lets them go and so they travel to the land where God has told Moses to go and worship Him. What stood out to me, was God's provision. Not only did God keep His promises to Moses by freeing the Hebrews from slavery and leading them to the promised land, He also reassured them that He would never leave them. God was always with the Hebrews as they travelled in a pillar of a cloud in the day and a pillar of fire by night.

Clouds represent a covering or protection. Fire can represent danger, but in this case, most likely protection like the clouds, and purification and a light to illuminate the way the Israelites were walking in the dark. The imagery shows that God was really looking out for them and providing His presence as they journeyed.

Whatever journey you are taking in life, God is with you. He hasn't left you and He is not going to. He is trying to lead You through the narrow road of this life, and sometimes it feels hard and lonely but He has promised to never leave or forsake you.

Whatever you are going through now, remember that God has already gone before you and He is with you in the cloud by day and fire by night, in your coming and your going out. Let this lift your spirit!
